Master Bathroom Remodeling in the Treasure Valley

Primary suites planned around two people using the room at once, with storage and lighting to match.

Short answer

A master or primary bathroom remodel focuses on a suite used daily by one or two people. Typical goals include a larger shower, a double vanity with real storage, separated toilet space, better lighting and ventilation, and a layout that lets two people move without collisions. The larger footprint gives more layout freedom than a hall bath.

Common goals in a primary suite

  • A larger shower, often replacing an underused corner tub
  • Double vanity with drawer storage rather than open cabinets
  • A separate toilet compartment or partial screen
  • Layered lighting: task at the mirror, ambient overhead, low-level night lighting
  • Ventilation sized to the room volume, ducted to the exterior

Keeping or removing the tub

Removing a rarely used garden tub is one of the most effective ways to gain shower space in a 1990s or 2000s Treasure Valley home. Before committing, consider whether another bathroom in the house retains a tub and how you actually use the room week to week.

Storage is what makes a suite feel finished

Most primary bathrooms fail on storage rather than square footage. Two people getting ready at once need a place for daily items within arm's reach of the mirror, and somewhere else entirely for towels, refills and appliances. Planning that before cabinetry is ordered is far cheaper than adding it later.

  • Drawers rather than doors below the vanity, with a U-cut around the trap
  • A powered drawer or interior outlet so appliances live where they are used
  • A tall linen unit or recessed cabinet instead of a shallow over-toilet shelf
  • Recessed niches sized to real bottles and set at the height you actually reach
  • A dedicated cleaning-supply spot so the room stays clear day to day

Comfort details worth deciding early

A few decisions have to be made before rough-in because they are impossible to retrofit without reopening the room. Heated floor mats, a recirculation loop that ends the long wait for hot water, a second shower valve or body spray, a fog-free mirror circuit and blocking for future grab bars all belong on the rough-in plan even if a couple of them are deferred.

Ventilation is the single most under-specified item in a primary suite. Size the fan to room volume rather than floor area, duct it to the exterior in insulated pipe, and put it on a humidity sensor so it runs after the room is empty.
